The impact of crime on economic,
social and political development of a country is difficult to
overemphasise. The economic cost alone runs into billions of
dollars annually. If this cost, or a substantial part of it,
can be prevented through a more effective criminal justice system,
the saved amount can be beneficially diverted towards alleviating
extreme poverty.
